Audio Visual

Medical Services and Warfare features a diverse and engaging range of audiovisual content, which is divided into four sections; galleries of visual highlights, a gallery of objects dating from the two World Wars, films, and video recordings of oral history interviews.

When you have selected a gallery, you can refine further by 'Date', 'Image Type' and 'Conflict'. You can also view the full-size images and related metadata, as well as download images as PDFs, run a slideshow or create bespoke collections of images using the 'My Lightbox' function.

The collection contains a selection of films digitised from the holdings of the British Film Institute, the National Library of Medicine, and King's College London and a series of oral history interviews with Second World War military medical personnel, filmed by the Duke University Medical Center Library & Archives.

When you have opened a film or audio history interview, a summary of the film appears at the right hand side of the video player. A series of playback controls and options are available, including Picture-in-Picture mode, which will display the film in a separate player at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, allowing you to continue watching with other windows or browser tabs open.

The oral history interviews feature searchable transcripts, which are also available to download as a PDF, and a facility to create clips, which are saved in My Archive.
